At It's time To Read, we believe that strong literacy skills open doors to lifetime opportunities. As Contra Costa County's trusted early literacy program, we specialize in nurturing confident readers from TK through 2nd grade, providing personalized reading instruction that transforms challenges into achievements.

With over 46 years of dedicated experience in education, Simone Delk brings passion and expertise to every aspect of It's Time to Read. Her journey began when her eldest child entered preschool, sparking a lifelong commitment to early literacy education. As our program director and owner, Simone has developed innovative teaching methods that embrace diverse learning styles, including sign language and Braille instruction.

Simone's approach centers on meeting each child exactly where they are, fostering individual growth through personalized attention and encouragement. Her extensive experience working with both general education students and children with special needs has shaped our program's inclusive, adaptive teaching philosophy.

Takari Talmore

Takari Talmore is deeply embedded in her community, where she is both well-known and highly respected for her dedication and willingness to offer her time and resources. Her passion for helping others and her commitment to fostering positive change make her a true leader in our program. She brings her creativity and compassion into every project she undertakes, making a lasting impact on the individuals she works with in need of support with domestic violence.

Through her role as Visual Display Director, Takari shapes the artistic and educational components of our literacy program, using her storytelling talents and community leadership to inspire the next generation of readers and learners.

Leader & Mentor

Alaysia Delk, a 16-year-old leader and mentor, is highly involved in her school and community. She serves as treasurer of the ROTC and secretary for Jesus Club, is a member of the color guard, and participates in SuperSAC with the superintendent, representing her peers. Alaysia is also active in school and city events, working closely with City Council Shanelle Scales-Preston during her guest speaking engagements. She helps students who speak little to no English in her class,volunteers with People Who Care, and received the Humanitarian Award in junior high school for her community contributions.

It’s Time to Read operates within Contra Costa County, specifically in Pittsburg, CA, and collaborates closely with the Pittsburg Unified School District.
